CSC reports death of inmate at Collins Bay Institution

An inmate has died while in the custody of Correctional Service Canada (CSC) at Collins Bay Institution.

According to a press release from CSC, the inmate, Christopher Sipes, 51, died on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019. At the time of his death, Sipes had been serving a five-year sentence for the possession of Schedule 1 and 2 Substances for purpose of trafficking since February 2018.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

“As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified,” CSC said in a press release on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019.

This is the third inmate death reported by CSC in the Kingston area the past week. CSC reported the death of an inmate at Millhaven Institution on Friday, Nov. 15, and another inmate death at Collins Bay Institution on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019.
