CSC report inmate death at Collins Bay Institution

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has reported the death of an inmate at Collins Bay Institution.

According to the CSC, David Kreindl passed away on Saturday, Mar. 23, 2024. At the time of his death, Kreindl, 57, had been serving a sentence of 12 years and 1 month, which began July 13, 2016, for offences including aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, discharge of a prohibited firearm with intent, and uttering threats to cause death or harm.

Kreindl’s next of kin have been notified the federal correctional agency relayed. The CSC noted that, at this time, further information regarding the cause of death is not available.

“A quality of care review will be conducted to examine the facts surrounding the offender’s death, and the cause of death will be determined by the Coroner,” stated Mike Shrider, Regional Communications Manager for the CSC.

As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the CSC will review the circumstances, according to a media release dated Monday, Mar. 25, 2024.

“CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified,” the organization said.
