Cross-country D-Day commemoration stops in Kingston
A set of combat boots travelling across Canada to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy arrived in Kingston on Saturday, May 18 and were part of a military ceremony held at the Via Rail train station.
At the end of the ceremony, a Canadian Armed Forces escort placed the boots—as a symbol of the Canadians who left their hometowns to travel to Halifax before going overseas to serve during the Second World War—on the train. The combat boots will arrive in Halifax on June 3, to become a key element of the Government of Canada signature ceremony on June 6.
