‘Critical incident exercise’ taking place at CFB Kingston

A heavy police and military presence at CFB Kingston today is nothing to worry about — it’s just an annual exercise taking place at the base.
On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019, Military Police Regiment Detachment Kingston, Kingston Police, and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) will be staging a “critical incident exercise” at CFB Kingston between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
“Exercise participants will be carrying weapons and firing blank ammunition during the scenario. Safety personnel will be deployed, directing traffic and controlling access to the exercise area,” CFB Kingston said in a press release on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2019.
“All activities in this area are part of a carefully controlled training scenario, and unless otherwise stated, are not in response to an actual emergency.”
Access to the north side of the Base may be affected.
According to CFB Kingston, this exercise is being conducted under all applicable Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), Kingston Police, and OPP training regulations to protect both the public and CAF members.
“There is no cause for concern,” the OPP East Region reiterated on social media ahead of the exercise.
