Kingston driver charged with impaired after collision with tree, building

A 27-year-old male from Kingston is facing multiple impaired driving-related charges after several collisions early on the morning of Saturday, Jun. 4, 2022.

Kingston Police say that officers received a citizen complaint about an erratic driver at around 12:40 a.m. on Saturday morning, According to the eyewitness, the driver had hit a tree at the intersection of Midland Avenue and Princess Street, and was continuing east on Princess Street.

According to Kingston Police, the driver then pulled into the parking lot of a shopping plaza, proceeding to crash his truck into a storefront of the complex. The suspect then allegedly attempted to flee the scene, but Kingston Police officers arrived shortly thereafter and, after a brief pursuit, apprehended the driver in the 200 block of The Parkway.

It was at that time that officers made observations of likely impairment, Kingston Police say. Further assessments led police to charge the individual with Impaired Operation Of A Conveyance and Operation Of A Conveyance With Blood Alcohol Level Over Prescribed Limit.

Luckily, there were no reported injuries in the incident. The dollar value of the damage to the building is not yet known.
