Drugs seized after stolen vehicle recovered in Picton

Members of the Prince Edward County (PEC) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say a stolen vehicle has been located and two individuals have been arrested after a traffic stop on Picton’s Main Street.

Shortly after 12 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, officers located a vehicle which had previously been reported to police as “taken without consent,” the OPP said. At the traffic stop, two of the vehicle’s occupants were arrested and a third fled the scene. According to a media release, during a subsequent search, officers seized a quantity of suspected fentanyl, cell phones, and drug paraphernalia.

Tammy Barsley, age 40, from Picton has been charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of anything for use in, production of/trafficking in schedule one substance or schedule three substance

Barsley was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023.

Alisha Zachariah, age 34 from Prince Edward County, was charged with taking a motor vehicle without consent. Zachariah was released on an undertaking to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton in February 2023.

The third occupant of the vehicle was not located. As such, the investigation into this person continues, the OPP said. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident or the whereabouts of the third individual in the vehicle is asked to call 1-888-310-1122.
