COVID-19 outbreak declared at Loughborough branch of Frontenac County Child Care
Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a childcare facility in Sydenham, South Frontenac Township.
The outbreak has been declared at the the Loughborough branch of Frontenac County Child Care, which is located within Loughborough Public School on Wheatley Street in Sydenham. There are currently two active cases involved in the outbreak, which was officially declared on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021.

According to the Frontenac County Child Care website, the Loughborough branch offers toddler, preschool, kindergarten, and before and after school programming, as well as programming for school-aged children.
This outbreak is one of two current outbreaks within licensed childcare facilities in the KFL&A region, with an outbreak declared at Trillium Child Care, located on Edgar Street in Kingston, on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021. The outbreak at Trillium Child Care also involves two active cases.
The data provided by KFL&A Public Health does not indicate whether the cases are among staff or the children that attend programming at the centre.
As of Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, there are 51 active COVID-19 outbreaks within the KFL&A region, involving 259 active cases of the virus. On the same day, KFL&A Public Health issued a press release urging residents to vaccinate and reduce close contacts. Case counts locally remain at an all-time high, as does the rate positivity for those tested for COVID-19 in the region. This is due largely in part to the presence of the Omicron variant within KFL&A and local cases, according to Public Health.
