COVID-19 outbreak declared at LCVI

Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington (KFL&A) Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute (LCVI), where there are currently 8 active cases of the virus.

The outbreak was officially declared on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, according to data from Public Health, however, the first case at the school was detected on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, and involved two student cases and five cohorts isolating, according to the Limestone District School Board (LDSB). The Board’s listing of active COVID-19 cases states a further case was detected on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, leading to isolation of two more cohorts, and two more student cases were detected on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021. A total of seven cohorts at the school are now isolating, according to the LDSB, and the school remains open.

The LDSB only lists five detected cases of COVID-19 on their online case listing, however, KFL&A Public Health data states there have been a total of 10 cases involved in the outbreak at LCVI, two of which are currently resolved.

According to the LDSB, there are currently 88 active cases of COVID-19 within the Board. Thirteen schools within KFL&A are currently enduring outbreaks, according to Public Health. The LDSB lists seven active outbreaks currently, however, LCVI is not listed as an active outbreak by the Board, and a number of LDSB schools are now listed as having pivoted to remote learning.
