COVID-19 outbreak declared at Extendicare Kingston

KFL&A Public Health announced an outbreak at Extendicare Kingston on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020.

Extendicare Kingston released a statement on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020, stating they are working closely with public health to contain spread of COVID-19 at their facility.

“At this time, we have received a positive test result for one staff member,” Extendicare said in the release. “This team member is isolating at home until they are cleared to return to work. We have not received any positive results for residents.”

As per public health direction, all residents are isolating in their rooms where they are receiving meals and care support, according to the release. The long term care facility said they have enhanced infection prevention and control protocols in place and additional PPE requirements for staff, and they are continuing to follow the latest guidance from public health to make sure their response is informed by the latest available evidence.

“Our first priority, as always, is to maintain the health and safety of our residents and we know this is concerning news for our community,” the Extendicare release continued. “We will continue to keep in close contact with our residents, staff and families.”
