One positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) as of Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020.

The case is at J. J. O’Neill Catholic School in Napanee, according to ALCDSB’s COVID-19 update page. ALCDSB confirmed Tuesday evening that the individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is an elementary school aged student.*

The case was confirmed in the afternoon, after Kingston Frontenac Lennox & Addington (KFL&A) Public Health had completed their daily COVID-19 data update. It will reportedly be added into the Public Health data set during the regular, midday update on Wednesday, Sep. 30, 2020.

A positive case at a school does not mean the individual was exposed to COVID-19 at the school. The student may have been exposed somewhere else in the community.

The school board issued a statement on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020:

“The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board continues to work in collaboration with our local public health units and follow their direction and guidance.  All up-to-date information can be found on the Board website and public health websites. No further details will be shared in the interest of maintaining privacy of individuals in our school communities.”

*Editor’s note: This article has been updated to include details about the individual who tested positive for COVID-19.
