The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has reported that an inmate was assaulted at its minimum security Joyceville Institution, located just northeast of Kingston.
On Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, an inmate was the victim of an assault at the Institution, which currently holds 732 inmates.
“The injured inmate was evaluated by staff members and transported to an outside hospital to receive treatment and has since returned to the institution,” the CSC stated. “No staff members or other inmates were injured during this incident.”
According to a release from the CSC, dated Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, the assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken.
“The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system,” the CSC said. “In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures.”
In response to Kingstonist inquiries, CSC said that the assailant involved in the assault was another offender at the institution.
