Correctional Service Canada: Death of inmate at Millhaven Institution

An inmate from Millhaven Institution Regional Treatment centre has died, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

CSC announced today that Peter Brooks, an inmate at Millhaven, died while in their custody of apparent natural causes on Wednesday, Mar. 20, 2019.

Brooks was 78 at the time of his death, and had been serving an indeterminate sentence for second degree murder since January 16, 2017. He received the sentence after being found guilty of murdering 72-year-old Jocelyn Dickson at a Toronto seniors’ residence, a residence he also resided in.

According to CSC, the inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death, and, as in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and coroner be notified in the case of an inmate death.
