Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School (RND) has announced their ninth annual Broadway Gala, featuring students and alumni coming together to perform songs from their favourite Broadway productions.

The Broadway Gala will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2024, beginning at 7 p.m. in the RND cafetorium. Admission to the Broadway Gala is a pay-what-you-can program, with a suggested donation of $5, and all funds going towards RND’s arts programs. RND has been putting on the Broadway Gala since 2014, and this year would have been the 10th show, if not for the pandemic.

Guests can look forward to performances from RND’s senior band, junior band, and jazz band, as well as singing acts from soloists, duets, and groups, all performing pieces from different Broadway classics. This year, there will be acts from Sweeney Todd, The Greatest Showman, Sound of Music, Mamma Mia, Hadestown, and more. The 2024 production features 20 students, who make up around a dozen different acts.

“The cool thing about it is that it’s all musical theatre-themed. Every three years, the RND senior band travels to New York City and we are also kind of known in Kingston for putting on a musical every year. So, we are pretty into Broadway theme events,” laughed Justine Lord, the band director.

Lord will be heading the Broadway Gala alongside RND drama teacher and musical director, Will Cunningham. Cunningham and Lord also hope to announce next year’s RND musical following the show.

The performers will be accompanied by Brent Nuevo, an RND alumni who also participated in the very first RND Broadway Gala production. There will be other RND alumni who will be returning to the school for a night filled with music and fun.

During the show, guests can participate in a raffle to offer more support to the school’s arts programs. The raffle will include two tickets to the Thousand Islands Playhouse, located in Gananoque, redeemable for one of this season’s shows of the winner’s choice. Winners can also receive a $100 gift card to Riva, previously the Golden Apple, also located in Gananoque. Guests have two chances to win these prizes, as there are two separate baskets containing the same prizes — allowing two lucky attendees to gain yet another theatrical experience this year, while also helping raise funds for the RND arts programs. Tickets will be sold, and the winners will be drawn, at the show.
