Collision involving motorcyclist closes Battersea Road

Kingston Police officers continue to investigate a collision involving a vehicle and a motorcycle on Battersea Road, in which the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries.
The collision occurred near River Ridge Drive shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023.
“The motorcyclist has been transported to hospital via ambulance with serious injuries,” Kingston Police said in a press release on Wednesday afternoon shortly after the collision.
“To reduce congestion please avoid Battersea Road from Kingston Mills Road to the south and Unity Road to the north,” Kingston Police advised at the time.
Local traffic was routed between River Ridge Drive and Maple Lawn Drive, The roadway was reopened at around 6:30 p.m.
According to Kingston Police, the motorcyclist is now in stable condition at hospital.
“The motorcycle was originally northbound on Battersea Rd when a pickup truck towing a trailer, going southbound, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto River Ridge Drive. The rider struck the end of the trailer, falling off, and the motorcycle carried northbound, coming into contact with the front end of another pickup truck also travelling southbound,” Kingston Police said following their collision reconstruction.
There were no other injuries, police said.
The 64-year-old driver of the truck and trailer has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with ‘Left turn – fail to afford reasonable opportunity to avoid collision.’
