Collision causing fatality leads to closure of County Road 2

A three-vehicle collision that took place on County Road 2 in Odessa has resulted a fatality and the closure of a stretch of that road.

The collision took place on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at just after 12:00 p.m. The East Region of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) communications staff confirmed the collision led to the death of one driver involved

“Officers of the Lennox and Addington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as well as Loyalist Fire Department and Lennox and Addington EMS responded to a report of a head on fatal motor vehicle collision involving three vehicles,” the OPP said.

“L&A County OPP are currently on scene investigating and County Road 2 in Loyalist Township has been closed for further investigation.”

The OPP closed County Road 2 from Fairbanks Street to Clark Road in both directions.

The section of Country Road 2 was reopened around 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019.

As a result of the collision, one driver is deceased at the scene, another driver has been taken to hospital with injuries, and the third driver was uninjured.

The OPP have confirmed the identity of the deceased to be Daniel James Kelly, 53, of Odessa, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, it is unknown whether any charges will be laid in relation to the collision.
