Collision at York and Division Streets results in assault and arrest

A motor vehicle collision at the intersection of York and Division Streets led to an assault on Thursday, Apr. 25, 2024.

According to a release from Kingston Police, the collision took place around 12 p.m. on the aforementioned date. Officers were dispatched to the location and, while en route, received further information that an assault had just taken place at the scene, police detailed.

“Arriving at the scene of the motor vehicle collision, police learned that a relative of one of the involved drivers had attended this location and, following a brief argument, punched the other driver whose vehicle had originally been rear-ended,” Kingston Police stated.

“The other driver and their relative, the accused, had then left prior to police arrival, and attended police headquarters to complete a motor vehicle collision report.”

According to the release, the accused was promptly arrested for the assault. They were later released on conditions with a future court date, police said.

A 39-year-old local individual was charged with assault.
