Collision at Amherstview school leads to impaired driving charges

A Loyalist Township woman is facing charges after a single-vehicle collision occurred on the property of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Amherstview last night.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers from the Lennox and Addington (L&A) OPP Detachment responded to reports of the single vehicle collision at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2022. Upon arrival on the scene, officers located the vehicle in question, which had crashed into a flagpole on the school yard, which is located on Park Crescent at the intersection of Briscoe Street.

The ensuing investigation found that the driver had left the roadway and collided with the pole, resulting in minor injuries. Loyalist Fire and Rescue and Frontenac Paramedic Services also attended the scene to offer support.
According to the L&A OPP, the female driver, who was located on scene, was showing signs of impairment. She was subsequently arrested and taken to the L&A OPP Detachment for processing. As a result, Stephanie Tweedie, 45, has been charged with:
- Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – alcohol and drug
- Operation of a motor vehicle while over the legal blood alcohol limit
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Additionally, Tweedie’s driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle she was driving was towed and impounded for seven days. Tweedie will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
The OPP said Tweedie was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in early February.
