Collins Bay Institution on lockdown to allow for search

The medium security unit at Collins Bay Instituion is currently on lockdown to allow staff members to conduct an exceptional search.

The lockdown was put in place at about 3:30 p.m. on May 29, 2019, according to Correctional Service Canda (CSC).

“The search was ordered to ensure the safety and security of the institution, its staff and inmates,” CSC said in a press release on Thursday, May 30, 2019.

Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so. Visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Visitors who have already planned a visit are asked to contact the institution directly.

“The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions. CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions,” CSC  said.
