Closure of Township offices in Frontenac

As a result of the Provincial Government’s 28-day lockdown for the KFL&A Region, all the Township offices in North and South Frontenac will be temporarily closed.
Since the Township offices are already closed between Christmas and New Years, this additional closure will commence on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021 and continue for at least the duration of the Provincial lockdown.
While the offices will be closed to the public during this time, the Townships say most municipal services will continue to be delivered and public communications via telephone and email will remain available during regular business hours.
North Frontenac Township
As well as the Municipal Office, the Township of North Frontenac said in a release dated Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 they will be closing the following facilities to the public until further notice:
- Community Halls
- Ompah Library
- Public Internet Outreach Program (Cloyne and Plevna Library)
North Frontenac Township staff will be working regular scheduled hours and are available to serve you via the telephone or email. Also, the Municipal Office has a mail slot available at the front Entrance to the Office.
All Waste Disposal Sites in North Frontenac remain open with regularly scheduled hours at this time (also see Holiday Hours).
South Frontenac Township
In South Frontenac Township, the following changes to service delivery will take place immediately, according to their media release, dated Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020.
Council Update
Council and Committee of the Whole meetings will continue as scheduled, via the current electronic meeting format using Zoom and streamed through Facebook Live. Residents can register for online meetings through their website, or tune into their Facebook page to listen to the meetings live.
Development Services Update – Building and Planning Services
Effective December 24th, 2020 at 12 p.m. the Planning and Building department will no longer be receiving the public in person, but will continue to accept communications via email and phone.
Committee of Adjustment meetings will continue as scheduled using the electronic meeting format that has been in place the past several months. Information about participation and registration for Committee of Adjustment meetings is available on their website.
Building and Planning staff will remain available to respond to inquiries and assist in the processing of applications via phone and email.
Planning pre-consultation meetings will continue to be scheduled but will occur via phone or Zoom. Customers are strongly encouraged to utilize the in-take forms on the Township website to initiate these inquires.
Building permit applications can be submitted online, via mail, or in person using the drop box located at 4432 George St., Sydenham. Permit fees can be submitted via mail or drop box.
South Frontenac Building Inspectors will continue to conduct inspections, but will be following a new inspection protocol given current physical distancing recommendations.
Changes to protocol include:
- Pre-screening questions will be asked of residents/applicants at the time inspections are booked;
- Inspectors will ask screening questions on site;
- Requests for inspections inside occupied dwellings will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with a priority given to inspections related to immediate health and safety concerns
- For any inspections of occupied dwellings:
- Inspectors will be requesting occupants of the dwelling to be off-site at the time of the inspection
- Inspectors will be wearing PPE (gloves and masks)
Treasury Department Updates
Effective December 24th, 2020 at 12 p.m., the Treasury Department will be closed to the public; however, Treasury Department staff will remain available to respond to inquiries via email and phone. Any forms or cheque payments can be mailed into the office, or dropped off at the Drop box located at 4432 George St., in Sydenham.
Any deadlines or payment dates previously communicated to residents will remain the same at this time.

Public Works Department Update
Effective December 24th, 2020 at 12:00 pm, all Public Service Offices & Garages will be closed to the public. Administrative Staff will be available to respond to inquiries via phone and email.
Public Works operations will continue and all winter road maintenance standards will continue to be met.
Regular hours apply at both the Loughborough Waste Disposal Site and Portland Waste Disposal Site. For the safety of front-line staff, please follow all posted signage and continue to practice physical distancing. Garbage & Recycling pick up will continue as scheduled. Please note that all waste sites are closed on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, with the Loughborough Waste Disposal Site also being closed on Monday, Dec. 28th, 2020.
Additionally, all Municipal facilities that are used for recreational purposes will be closed to the public. Any booking fees for dates within the closure will be refunded.
Residents’ cooperation and patience is appreciated during this time. South Frontenac Township says it is the goal of Council and staff of the Township to continue to provide quality services under the challenging circumstances, while also keeping residents and staff safe.
