With the cold days and longer nights comes overnight parking restrictions in the City of Kingston.

Starting Tuesday, Dec. 1, parking is prohibited on all City streets from 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. – and from 12 a.m. to 7 a.m. on the streets that surround Kingston General Hospital, according to a release from the City of Kingston, dated Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020. The overnight Winter Parking Bylaw ensures that vehicles are kept off streets so that snowplows can effectively respond to winter weather events.

“This bylaw is in place to help with winter maintenance and our snow removal efforts.  We are able to plow roads much more effectively overnight when there are no cars parked on streets,” says Bill Linnen, Director, Public Works Services.

Vehicle-owners who disobey the bylaw will receive a fine of up to $30 and vehicles found in contravention of the bylaw are subject to a tow, according to the City.

The overnight Winter Parking Bylaw remains in effect until the end of March 2021.
