The City of Kingston’s Neighbourhood Tree Planting Program is back for another season. Discounted trees are available for local property owners to purchase throughout the month of March, to help grow Kingston’s tree canopy.

“Purchasing a tree is an excellent way to improve your property and help grow our tree canopy – which benefits all Kingstonians,” said Troy Stubinski, Public Works Operations Manager. “Trees provide shade, store greenhouse gases, give off oxygen, help remove pollutants from groundwater and help prevent soil erosion. They do many important jobs, and all while beautifying our community and promoting wellbeing.”

According to a release from the City, the following 10 species of tree are available for purchase at $20 each:

  • Autumn Blaze Maple
  • Colorado Blue Spruce
  • RedBud
  • Apple tree (Cortland)
  • Red Oak
  • Serviceberry
  • Sugar Maple
  • White Birch
  • White Pine
  • White Spruce

The trees are available for purchase on a first-come-first-served basis, the City said. Property owners can purchase up to two trees per property while supplies last. According to the release, a second round of the Neighbourhood Tree Planting Program is planned for the month of July.
