A 43-year-old from Centre Hastings is facing charges after a “lengthy fraud investigation” by the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

According to a release from the OPP, on Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, officers arrested and charged an individual as a result of the investigation. Dating back to 2021, reports stated that over $100,000 had gone missing, police said.

Theresa Moore, from Centre Hastings, has been charged with the following offences:

  • Fraud over $5,000
  • Criminal breach of trust
  • Forgery

Moore was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton next month.

Kingstonist inquired with the OPP as to what type of fraud this was, how many victims were involved and whether or not more people may be affected by this fraud, among other questions. The OPP said they are not able to release many details on this or other fraud cases, as they do not want to release any information that might identify involved victims.

Kingstonist is continuing with inquiries and investigation. Further coverage will be provided as more information becomes available.
