The Grand Opening of a new Osmow’s franchise on the corner of Gardiners Road and Entell Circle took place on Friday, July 19, 2019.

Mayor Bryan Paterson and Town Crier Chris Whyman took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony with CEO Sam Osmow, District Manager Paul Tobias, and Kingston franchise owner Stephen Smelser.

After a short address from Mayor Paterson, Whyman rang his bell to signify the restaurant open.

Mayor Paterson, Whyman, and Tobias all sat down with the other guests to eat some of the free Mediterranean food provided to mark the event.

Smelser said that the restaurant had been busy throughout the day and had received a warm reception. “The community has really taken us in. The Muslim community has embraced us as well,” Smelser said. “So it’s been really good.”

Smelser spoke about his desire to open the restaurant in the west end, stating that he felt many businesses cater primarily to the downtown and student areas, which they plan to cater through UberEats and Skip the Dishes.

“Everybody goes downtown. We wanted to go to the west end because everybody always gives to the students, but nobody gives to Kingstonians,”he said.

“I’m so happy,” said Tobias. “I’m proud to be part of Kingston with the opening of this location.
