This afternoon, the completed portion of Breakwater Park was reopened to the public. This included the Time headland and the eastern half of the park between St. Lawrence and Lower University Avenues. The work in this section of the park was finished at 2 p.m.
“We are close to completing the park improvements and are ready to open those areas that are safe for public use in time for summer,” says Luke Follwell, director, recreation and leisure services.
Other improvements to the waterfront park include:
– A new park promenade
– Pedestrian bridge to the pier
– Pier upgrades
– Shoreline works
– Pathway lighting
– Landscaping and tree planting
– Accessibility improvements
The best way to access Breakwater Park is at the new traffic signals installed earlier this month on King Street at Lower University Avenue.
The public is being asked to continue to avoid areas of the park fenced off for their safety as they remain under construction. The City is also asking park users to stay off the newly planted sod – the grass is fragile while it’s establishing new roots.
