Border stop at 1000 Islands Bridge leads to child pornography charges

The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a commercial driver with possession of child pornography while attempting to enter Canada at the 1000 Islands Bridge border crossing.

On Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, Leeds County OPP were contacted by Canadian Border Services after they found a commercial vehicle driver to be in possession of child pornography while attempting to cross the border from the United States, according to a release from the OPP.

As a result, Ashokkumar Vettivelautham, age 49, of Saint Laurent, Quebec, was charged with one count of possession of child pornography.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit assisted by the Technological Crime Unit and Leeds County OPP Detachment are continuing their investigation.

OPP said that the accused was held in custody pending a future bail hearing.
