BIA poised to ‘celebrate summer’ with return of signature events

After two years of cancelled or scaled back events, the Downtown Kingston! Business Improvement Area (BIA) has announced it’s “full steam ahead” with the return of its full lineup of signature events, as well as a few additions to the schedule.
The BIA provided the following details in a media release on Friday, May. 6, 2022:
If those lawn chairs are still in winter storage, make sure to dig them out before the return of Movies in the Square on Thursday, June 16, 2022! While Jan MacDonald, Director of Events for Downtown Kingston!, isn’t offering any clues on this year’s line-up, she confirms there’s a little something for everyone.
“It’s a nice mix of classic and new and covers a range on genres,” MacDonald said.
Movies in the Square runs Thursday evenings at dusk throughout the summer.
Following on the heels of Movies in the Square, Kingston Buskers Rendezvous returns July 7 to 10, 2022. The four day festival, which is synonymous with summer in the limestone city, sees street performers from around the world showcase their talents for awe-inspired audiences.
For MacDonald, planning the first festival since 2019 is a welcome relief, particularly for the performers. “Busking is their livelihood,” explained MacDonald, “so it’s been a tough few years for a lot of them.”
Running July 7 through 10, 2022, this year’s event promises a full roster of global talent that’s not to be missed!
And if you’re wondering about the return of the Limestone City Blues Festival, you’re not alone.
“We’re receiving calls almost daily asking if Blues is back at full strength,” said MacDonald. “And the answer is yes!”
The four day festival will run from August 25 to 28, 2022, on various stages throughout downtown. As for the headliners, MacDonald isn’t sharing, at least not yet.
“We’ve secured some amazing performers. I will say that much,” she teased.
According to the release, in addition to its’ signature events, the BIA has a few new offerings, including Spring Stop & Shop. Designed as a thank you from the downtown community to Kingstonians for their support during the past two years, the event runs Saturday, May 14, 2022, from 12 to 8 p.m. Patrons can take advantage of special one-day offers from participating businesses, and the Kingston Trolley will be on hand to give them a lift.
