Belleville police have charged a man with sexual assault after an incident involving two teen girls in the downtown area.

Police stated in a media release that on Friday, May 17, 2024, at about 2:20 p.m., the Belleville Police Service received a call reporting that two highschool age females were walking on Church Street when they were approached by an unknown male.

“One of the females was sexually assaulted by the male,” police said.

The two girls immediately went to a nearby school and reported the incident. Police say there were no reported injuries.

“Police learned that the male initially began to follow the females while they were walking on Front Street and followed them to Church Street,” the release continued.

After obtaining a description of the suspect, officers began searching the area. Police also used the downtown cameras to help with the investigation, and were able to identify and locate the suspect near the intersection of Pinnacle and Front Streets.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested and charged 29-year-old Jacob Bodzasy, of Kingston, with one count of sexual assault.

This charge has not been proven in court.

He was released on an undertaking with a court date in June.
