Barricading himself in ex’s residence ends in Kingston man’s arrest for domestic assault
An ex refusing to leave her home and barricading himself inside led one woman to contact Kingston Police and report ongoing domestic abuse.
The woman, the victim of the abuse, reported multiple incidents of domestic assault to police on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, indicating she had been in a relationship with the accused man for approximately two and a half years. The accused man had moved in with the victim in 2017, but the relationship had since deteriorated and, by November of 2018, the victim had ended their relationship. Despite the victim asking the accused man to move out of the residence, he refused and remained.
The victim reported that, on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018, she and the accused man were arguing about money that was missing from her wallet. The man became angry and twisted the victim’s arm behind her back before pressing her up against a wall. Then, on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, the victim entered a room in her residence to retrieve her laptop, and the accused man shoved her in the face with his hand, and then grabbed her by the arm and pushed her forcibly against the wall, according to Kingston Police.
The volatile relationship came to a head on Monday, Feb. 11, when the victim returned to her residence to find that the accused man had used a two-by-four to barricade himself inside. In doing so, the accused had also prevented the victim from entering her own home.
Police were called and attended the residence in the north end of the city. Officers spoke with the accused, who refused to open the door or exit the residence. Despite being informed of the charges he was facing, the accused man remained uncooperative.
Later that same day, after obtaining a warrant, the Kingston Police Emergency Response Unit returned to the address at 8:55 p.m. The officers broke up the door to gain entry to the house, and placed the accused in custody.
The 46-year-old local man was charged with two counts of assault.
