Barricaded male on Mowat Avenue in police custody

Kingston Police responded to the area of Mowat Avenue, in Kingston’s midtown, on the afternoon of Saturday, Mar. 5, 2022, for a report of a barricaded male in an apartment building. Frontenac Paramedics also responded as a precaution.

Police responded to the “public disturbance” call shortly before 3:30 p.m., deploying police units throughout the Mowat Avenue, Wolfe Street, and Forsythe Street areas. Kingston Police requested that motorists and pedestrians remain away from the area of Mowat Avenue between Johnson Street and Union Street and that residents who were already in their homes in the area shelter in place for several hours.

At around the same time, Kingston Police and Frontenac Paramedics were also called to report to a violent incident in the area of Daly Street and Weller Avenue. Although these incidents took place at approximately the same time, they were unrelated.

Officers took the individual into custody without further incident shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday morning and the shelter in place was lifted.

Police said they wished to thank citizens in the community for their patience while this matter was being safely resolved.
