Applications for Kingston Climate Change Action Fund now open

Not-for-profits and registered charities in Kingston can now apply for funding for green projects which will reduce greenhouse gases (GHG), and assist with climate change adaptation and/or technological innovation. Applications for the 2022-23 Kingston Climate Change Action Fund (KCCAF) open today, Monday, Aug. 15, 2022.
“We’re thrilled to support local charities and non-profits in their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Julie Salter-Keane, Manager of the City’s Climate Leadership Division.
Introduced in 2020, the KCCAF helps eligible community organizations become part of city-wide solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, according to a release from the City.
“Together, we have the ability to realize our vision of becoming a carbon neutral city no later than 2040,” Salter-Keane stated.
The City invites interested charities and non-profits to review the applicant guide to learn more about the fund, projects it helps realize, and frequently asked questions. Non-profits with questions about the application process can arrange a one-on-one meeting with Salter-Keane on Aug. 17 or 18. Book a meeting here.
According to the release, successful applicants will have their projects featured on the City of Kingston website and donors will be able to review them and target their donations to their chosen project(s).
During the 2021-22 fundraising year, more than $50,000 was raised through the support of the community, supporting green initiatives in the community including the Cycle Kingston bicycle valet program, Extend-A-Family Kingston hydroponic greenhouse, and Sustainable Kingston rain gardens, the City stated.
“Thanks to the Kingston Community Climate Action Fund, we were able to reach new audiences, raise awareness of our work in the community, and raise money to help install a state-of-the-art greenhouse that will allow us to grow food locally,” said Paul McGarvey, Executive Director at Extend-A-Family Kingston.
The application period closes on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022. Learn more and submit your application at CityofKingston.ca/KCCAF
