Multi-vehicle collision closes 401 in both directions just east of Odessa

Napanee OPP continue to investigate a motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a car that  caused both eastbound and westbound lanes to be closed. The collision occurred just east of Odessa, shortly before 3 p.m., closing the 401 from Highway 38 to County Rd 6. Eyewitnesses say the tractor trailer involved in the collision clipped a cube van, starting off a chain reaction that included the rollover of a passenger vehicle and several fuel fires.

The eastbound lanes reopened at around 6:15 p.m., while the westbound lanes remained closed until around 9 p.m. as road crews repaired damage to the road surface from the heat of the fires.
