22-year-old arrested after barricading himself and victim in Napanee motel

A Greater Napanee man is facing eight charges after an incident on Sunday afternoon saw a large police presence encompass a motel on County Road 41.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, officers from the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an incident involving a person who had barricaded themselves inside a Masterson’s Motel room in Greater Napanee. Their initial investigation found that a male was inside the room “with a person whom he was threatening,” the L&A OPP said in a press release on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021.

Called in to assist with the incident, the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and the OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) negotiated at the scene. As a result, the victim was removed from the motel room without incident. After further communications and negotiations, the male suspect was arrested and taken into custody a short time after, at approximately 5 p.m.

As a result, Logan Gilchrist, 22, of Greater Napanee has been charged with:

  • Forcible confinement
  • Assault
  • Four counts of uttering threats
  • Two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

Gilchrist was held in custody and scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee for a bail hearing today, Monday, Nov. 22, 2021.

According to police, the victim was uninjured. The L&A OPP continue to investigate this incident.
