The 1000 Islands Sportsplex in Kingston’s west end is the latest victim of Tuesday’s monster snowstorm.

The inflatable dome on Westbrook Road collapsed under the weight of the accumulated snow sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning; the collapse was discovered around 1:30 a.m. when Kingston Fire & Rescue attended due to fire alarms activated by the collapse. The dome was unoccupied at the time.

Following the collapse, the dome will require repairs to its fabric and it is hoped that it will be re-inflated early next week. In the meantime, all weekend activities have been cancelled at the dome.

The 1000 Islands Sportsplex is not the first of Kingston’s inflatable structures to have crumpled under the weight of snow this week. The CFB Kingston sports dome in the city’s east end also partially collapsed earlier in the week. It was fully deflated on as a precaution and to allow for snow removal.
