Local organizations ready to welcome kids and families back to fall programming

With the return of school, parents may be wondering what safe and fun activities are open for business this fall.

Many local organizations are setting up registration and classes, and making changes to procedures, to ensure a safe return to regular programming. (Or at least close to it.)

Take a look at some local extra-curricular opportunities and organizations that have reopened and are ready to host you and your children safely:

Cantabile is currently accepting members for Virtual Voices: Cantabile’s hallmark vocal education program, redesigned for online learning and delivered straight to the comfort and safety of your home. Cantabile continues its dedicated service to the community by offering affordable and accessible vocal education and performance opportunities. No audition – just sign up! Bursaries are available to help families in need of financial assistance.

Programs are available for both children and teens.

Children (ages 8-12): takes place Mondays from 4:30-5:00pm. Sessions consists of vocal warm-ups and instruction, musical games and ear-training exercises, song-learning, and jam sessions. Each term culminates in the creation of a live-streamed virtual choir video.

Youth (ages 13-17): takes place Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm. Sessions consists of vocal education lecture series VOICE 101: a deep-dive into everything that makes singing awesome! Sessions include vocal exercises, score study, and each term culminates in the creation of a live-streamed virtual choir video.

Improbable Escapes has been a part of the Kingston community since 2015, bringing vibrant escape room experiences to our city. Now with a brand new location in the west-end, Improbable Escapes has 9 games to experience to enjoy. Indoor games are private bookings for your group, and are sanitized between uses. Their outdoor games have been very popular this summer, where players walk through downtown Kingston, solving their missions.

A member of the Kingston community since September of 1973, the Kingston Aeros Trampoline Club has evolved to offer a diverse set of programs for people of all shapes, sizes, ages, and abilities. Housed in a 6500 sq/ft fully accessible facility, they pride themselves on providing a fun, safe and welcoming atmosphere for their participants.

What makes the Kingston Aeros Trampoline Club different? Their equipment is of the highest standard (the same type used in the Olympic Games) and is regularly inspected and maintained. The staff are trained and certified through programs designed by Gymnastics Canada and the National Coaching Certification Program with the Coaching Association of Canada. They have 8 trampolines & 2 double-mini trampolines, as well as an overhead spotting rig and bungee system to help with teaching skills. Their extensive COVID protocols include enhanced cleaning & infection control practices, reduced class sizes and limited spectator capacity.

The Kingston Gymnastics Club was incorporated in 1971, and has been a strong member of the Kingston community for nearly 50 years. The club is a not-for-profit that is governed by a volunteer board of directors and operated by a dedicated team of administrative and coaching staff.

Today we are proud to offer a variety of programming for babies and toddlers all the way to adults. Our strong mission, vision, and values govern who we are, what we do, and how we do it.

The Kingston Gymnastics Club is happy to announce that we have restarted our recreational program with vigorous protocols in place to create a safe environment.  Our next session will run from October 7 to November 1 and registration will be open shortly.

Music for Young Children provides a comprehensive music program that integrates keyboard, ear training, sight reading, creative movement, rhythm, music theory and composition. Our Canadian program has been taught for 40 years and children love the creative approach to learning music. MYC provides the structure for learning while allowing children the freedom to think. 

Our studio has been redesigned to meet provincial COVID-19 protocols. We will learn together, but keep a respectful and safe distance from our friends. Each child/parent dyad will remain at their keyboard “station”, masks will be worn and no materials will be shared.
