Guide to Kingston Garden Centres

Guide to Kingston Garden Centre, Kingston, OntarioLast week we asked you which garden centre is your go-to for spring planting. With the May long weekend just a few days away (woo hoo!) we thought it might be helpful to compile our local nurseries into a handy guide. Similarly to our poll, we are stepping a bit outside ygk proper in order to make the best list possible. Check out our Guide to Kingston Garden Centres and start planning this year’s garden.

Burt’s Greenhouses (539 Maple Rd., Odessa): The very detailed website includes online sales, a full list of all the plants they offer for sale as well as fresh lettuce and other greens available for purchase.

Glocca Morra Farms (1623 and 1624 Hwy 15): This greenhouse also boasts a food truck, a studio for hosting workshops and other events, and a market. Let them fill your planters for you and they’ll keep them in their warm space until all signs of frost are gone.

Kingston Public Market (Market Square): Open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from April-November, it’s a great place to pick up colourful annuals and potted herbs. Bring cash and check out what else the market has to offer.

Memorial Centre Farmers’ Market (303 York St.): Pick up local annuals, herbs and veggie seedlings every Sunday from 10am-2pm. Bring cash and stay for lunch!

Old Farm Fine Foods (204 Barre St.): In the early months of spring and summer, you can find organic seedlings for herbs and other small veggie plants outside this downtown shop.

Potter’s Nurseries (690 Golden Mile Rd.): This centre specializes in trees, shrubs and perennials. They also offer landscaping services and are open year-round.

Quattrocchi’s (662 Montreal St.): This unassuming 74-year-old family-owned grocery store has an excellent selection of veggie seedlings as well as hanging flower pots and more. Check them out for an interesting variety of different veggie plants.

Riley’s Garden Centre (2141 Bath Rd.): This vast west end garden centre offers a large variety of annuals and perennials for planting, in hanging baskets, as well as veggie plants. You can also find accessories for your fairy garden and visit their fairy garden while you’re there.

Senica’s Greenhouse (1691 Hwy 2): We happened upon this by happy accident and have gone back repeatedly for a great selection of tomatoes and beautiful annuals. Cash only.

Sun Harvest Greenhouses (2542 Perth Rd.): The garden centre covers all the bases with annuals, perennials, ornamental grasses, herbs, veggies and more. They also sell fresh produce and offer workshops.

Thanks to Liz for today’s inspiring photo.
