Food education, cooking classes in Kingston, local sustainability in Kingston, OntarioThis summer, local restaurants and food-based business are catching wind of Kingstonians’ desire to know more about their food. Special food events and classes of all types are popping up all over town, set to take place over the next few months. Olivea tweeted that they will be offering a BBQ class next Saturday June 15th with chef Stev for anyone who wants to learn some tips and tricks. Beer enthusiasts can head over to Pan Chancho for a Beau’s beer and food pairing for Ontario Craft Beer Week (June 16th-22nd) or sit in on the Beer Tasting series at The Grad Club on Barrie Street where owners, brewers, and farmers representing Ontario breweries talk about their beers. Even the new olive oil shop, Kingston Olive Oil Co. on King St. is poised to do events and tastings with a kitchen area and communal table.

For a more hands-on experience, local favourite Pasta Genova also running cooking classes focusing on everything from pizza to sauces to risotto. And we can’t forget about the Chef Demos starting in July in Market Square.

Even local farmers have started doing small lectures about their own unique methods. Evan from The Kitchen Garden in Wilton has hosted informational sessions about how his farm tests for nutrient density in their produce and what methods they use to increase nutrients in crops.

These spots are off to a great start, but there may be other educational holes to fill when it comes to learning about food and food topics.
