#ygkChallenge: Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls, Martha's Table, Kingston, OntarioThe #ygkChallenge is an ongoing series where we dare you to be different, resolve to be better, and or do something awesome in support of our beloved community. Each week, Kingstonist establishes a new, ambitious or quirky goal, encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone and do something great, and hopefully a little out of the ordinary. By taking part in this community-wide initiative, we hope to make Kingston (and the world) a slightly better place to live, work and play.

This week’s #ygkChallenge encourages you to:

Get your Empty Bowls tickets.  Martha’s Table was created in 1997 to offer healthy meals and a warm, friendly space for those less fortunate in Kingston. For the past 16 years, Martha’s Table has teamed up with The Kingston Potters’ Guild, The Queen’s University Club and a number of local restaurants and bakeries to present Empty Bowls.  For $35, diners choose from a menu of gourmet soups  served with a roll from a local bakery in a handmade pottery bowl, which is theirs to keep.  Music is provided by local musicians during the meal. Tickets are on sale now for this year’s event, which takes place next Sunday, October 18th.  Last year’s Empty Bowls raised $21,000 for Martha’s.  This week, we challenge you to head to Martha’s Table, Carmelinda’s or Tara Natural Foods to pick up your tickets and play a part in this very worthy cause.

Join us in completing this week’s #ygkchallenge by liking it on Facebook and/or re-Tweeting it on Twitter. By liking and sharing, you’re not only committing to doing something great, but you’re also helping us spread the word and hopefully encouraging others to participate.

Thanks to Chiot’s Run for today’s photo.
