Best Take-Out in Kingston

take-out foodWe’ve all been there. Whether our lack of desire to prep a home cooked meal was brought on by a long day at the office, a special occasion to treat oneself to a favorite dish, or simply because of an insatiable craving, there are many days when take-out is the only option that seems right.  If you’re anything like me, somewhere in a jam packed kitchen drawer you’ve probably accumulated a stack of your favourite go-to take-out menus and expired coupons.  Passed on from generations, the tempting dishes described within these meal-stained leaflets say a great deal about our gastronomical preferences.  Come to think of it, it’s actually quite a feat for a restaurant to be included in a household’s collection of take-out menus, especially in this day and age where menus and online ordering are a simple click away.  While an increasing number of restaurants offer take-out and delivery, this week’s conversation focuses on local gems, rather than franchises such as East Side Mario’s, Swiss Chalet etc…  Accordingly we dare to ask:

Kingston's best place for take-out is:

  • Paradiso (24%, 42 Votes)
  • Saigon Delight (18%, 31 Votes)
  • Sushi Ya (14%, 25 Votes)
  • Mino's (14%, 24 Votes)
  • Something else entirely. (13%, 22 Votes)
  • VIP (12%, 21 Votes)
  • Curry Original (5%, 9 Votes)

Total Voters: 174

A week or so ago, we took to Twitter to ask our friends and followers this very question.  The suggestions, some of which are represented in this week’s poll, represented a solid cross section of Kingston’s finest pizzerias, Thai, Indian, Chinese and Canadian fare.  Of course, not every suggestion made the cut for inclusion in this week’s poll, and based on past experience, I recognize that limiting the poll to this pizzeria over that one may generate some heartfelt pleas and disagreements.  Looking at my stack of take-out menus, Darbar, Gino’s, Mekong, Cambodiana and Sima Sushi have all seen the most action in recent years.  And, while we’re always on the lookout for new, tempting options, it’s difficult for a new take-out restaurant to crack our household’s top five.

What are your favourite take-out restaurants in Kingston?  Are any of them sit down places you’ve never actually sat down in?  Do establishments with only take-out counters still exist in Kingston? Drop off your comments, and make a case for your top five take-out menus below.
