Kingston Frontenac Public Library celebrates 100 years of Storytime
In 1918, librarian Aimee Kennedy came up with an idea to host a children’s story hour at the library in Kingston.
Little did she know, ‘Storytime’ would continue for the next century, and 100 years later, the Kingston Frontenac Public Library would be hosting an event to honour that first Storytime here in Kingston.
On Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, the Kingston Frontenac Public Library will host a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Storytime at three of their locations throughout the city. Allowing attendees to step back in time for family Storytime, the events will include classic nursery rhymes and children’s tales, as well as fun parlour games. The events will also feature an online exhibit on Digital Kingston, which will allow those in 2018 to delve into the past with historic newspaper clippings, junior books from 1918, a timeline of children’s services at the library, and various images from the early 20th century. The digital exhibit will also celebrate the lady that first made Storytime happen with a biography of librarian Aimee Kennedy.
The celebrations take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Isabel Turner and Calvin Park branches of th Kingston Frontenac Public Library, and at 11 a.m. at the Rideau Heights branch.
