As the holiday season nears, Gananoque is gearing up for its 2023 Festival of Lights, which is expected to provide a diverse array of events for all. Beginning November 24 with a Downtown Holiday Shopping Event from 5 to 8 p.m., the festivities will have an official kick-off on Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. with the illumination of Town Hall Park and Candy Cane Lane, offering family-oriented activities, live music, and local culinary delights.
On Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m., the Gananoque Santa Claus Parade, hosted by the 1000 Islands Gananoque Chamber of Commerce, welcomes Santa Claus alongside festive floats and community groups. The Thousand Islands Playhouse will stage special performances, an Art Show, and a “How Sweet It Is” Christmas Concert on Dec. 17.
Santa Days at Town Hall Park, carolling at the Royal Theatre, and a captivating show by the Gananoque Skating Club on Dec. 20 will provide additional seasonal entertainment. Not to be missed are the free public skate at the Lou Jeffries Arena, a movie night at the Thousand Islands Playhouse and more.
The Winter Lights competition encourages local residents and businesses to decorate for a chance to win prizes in various wards, and for the best overall window or light display. Winners, selected by local judges, will be announced on Dec. 21 on the Town’s Facebook page, receiving prizes from local businesses.
