IGnite: Research Stories to Inspire Generations

January 30 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Free event for all ages!

Come and be inspired by the stories of discovery from Researchers at Queen’s University. The event features free food, science demos and displays, and two short talks by Queen’s faculty. The speakers will give a short presentation on their area of study and what inspired them into this work.

Our speakers are selected not only for their accomplishments but also for their ability to give engaging presentations and tell the story of their research to a wide variety of audiences. This makes IGnite accessible to anyone curious enough to attend. IGnite hopes to be the spark that inspires your family and our brilliant Kingston community.

Professor of Astroparticle Physics Mark Chen will give a talk titled “What Lurks Beneath: Neutrino Clues to Earth’s (Chemical) Origin” on how the Nobel Prize-winning SNO experiment is able to see radiation from the centre of the Earth. Professor of Chemistry Cathleen Crudden will give a talk on her passions titled “Right and left handed molecules and making metals organic”. Two students doing related work will also be highlighted, with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussions.

The evening talks begin at 6:45 pm and are followed by a reception featuring some light snacks, the Queen’s Hyperloop Design Team, The Queen’s Observatory and the Kingston astronomy club, as well as the Art of Research and Global Physics Photowalk Exhibits, the dark matter experiment NEWS-G, the always popular particle cloud chamber from the McDonald Institute Visitor Centre, and opportunities to connect with the speakers and others who are doing inspiring research at Queen’s.

**Note tickets do not secure a seat during the talks, so please arrive early.**

**Photos will be taken at the event. Please let a member of the McDonald Institute Team know if you would like to not have your photo taken.**
