#ygkPlaylist: October 2017

Fall is in the air, and that means it’s time to choke down pumpkin spiced beverages and take it a bit slower for a few days.  In the weeks ahead, our schedules will be jam packed with more gatherings and festive parties than we can shake a stick at.  As you sit back and watch the colours change, let this month’s playlist inspire you while apple picking, pumpkin carving and making well-intentioned plans of getting ahead of your holiday shopping. Featuring a double dose of one performer, and a reformed group aspiring to rock out with audiences, you’ll be tapping your toes in no time. Hit play on the #ygkPlaylist for October 2017 featuring: Erika Lamon, Reckless 4, et Les Soliloques.

Erika Lamon: this Bilingual singer-songwriter started her musical training at the age of four with classical piano. In her teens, she shifted to writing pop music for a wider, more contemporary audience. By 2014, Erika emerged as one of seven candidates on TFO’s JAM 3, a Canadian TV series that followed candidates as they prepared to perform at les FrancoFolies de Montreal, the biggest francophone music festival in North America. She released her first EP titled “Strangers Know” in 2016, which spans folksy acoustic tunes to soulful adult pop. Find Erika on Twitter and Bandcamp.

Reckless 4: formally known as HD Supply, this quartet was founded in 2010 in a small town north of Kingston. Their goal was to keep the sound of old school rock and roll alive and well. After undergoing some lineup changes over the years as HD Supply, the group reformed as Reckless 4 inj 2017.  This reconstituted four piece original hard rock band hits audiences with their high energy live performances consisting of throwing cards, unforgettable crowd chants and foot tapping tunes. Reckless 4 are Jordan Lowery (Guitar, Vocals), Jay Mills (Drums), Curtis Nolan (Guitar), and Hailie Mills (Bass). Find them on SoundCloud, Facebook, and YouTube.

Les Soliloques: members of this franco-Ontarian  band split their time between Kingston and Ottawa. The Soliloques revel in the colours of their Indie-Folk dream-like landscape. The band’s songs are devised like soliloquies; one moment lucid, the other nebulous, letting the personality of each band member seep through. Membres: Heinrick Gonneville, Max Nolet et Erika Lamon. Find Les Soliloques on Facebook and Twitter.

Every month, we comb Soundcloud looking for sounds that are unique to Kingston. We are constantly seeking out active musicians to show off to the local community and beyond. If you’re a musician who wants to be included in a future #ygkPlaylist, the first step is to get your original music up on Soundcloud and then follow us. We promise to follow you back, listen to your work and consider it for the monthly #ygkPlaylist.
