#ygkPlaylist: November 2017
Brrr, well, it looks like our extended summer is over. Today seems like a good one for staying in and checking out some fresh new tunes from some Kingston musicians. This month’s playlist includes a little bit of tried and true and little bit of brand new. Chances are very good you’ve heard of Tom Savage, a prolific singer-songwriter who has just released his eighth album and is about to hit the road once again. Francisco is a newer voice on the scene but has already made a good dent with three albums to boast, and Needless Love Endorsement is made up of Rae Corcoran and Sean Tomalty, two songwriters who had already made impressions on their own before joining forces. Hit play on the #ygkPlaylist for November 2017 featuring:
Tom Savage: Tom Savage is not your typical country and folk singer-songwriter. While his music is rooted in those genres, his influences comes from many corners of music including Townes Van Zandt, Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Springsteen. He is a phenomenal guitar player who also picks up the mandolin on occasion. His 20+ year career has seen him off on numerous tours across Canada and the United States – in fact he is gearing up now for a trip down south with his eighth album, Everything Intertwined, which was released in October. When he’s not on tour, you can find Tom hosting the open mic at The Rose and Crown every Wednesday night. Find Tom on SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
Francisco: Francisco Corbett is somewhat elusive with few words about himself on his social media, however, he has been fairly prolific with his output. He has released 3 albums since 2016, all of which contain over a dozen tracks each. His most recent album, Honey, which was released just last month, “is the story of a relationship that slowly declined and hurt everyone in it. I said [my previous album] PTSD was the feeling after and this was the story and feeling during.” Find Francisco on Twitter, Instagram and Bandcamp.
Needless Love Endorsement: NLE is Rae Corcoran and Sean Tomalty, two songwriters with similar tastes who were inspired back in 2013 to try their hand at writing and performing together. Their music is a careful fusion of alternative rock and electronic and the duo released their first EP in 2016. By the looks of their social media, a video is potentially in the works. Find Needless Love Endorsement on Soundcloud and Facebook.
Every month, we comb Soundcloud looking for sounds that are unique to Kingston. We are constantly seeking out active musicians to show off to the local community and beyond. If you’re a musician who wants to be included in a future #ygkPlaylist, the first step is to get your original music up on Soundcloud and then follow us. We promise to follow you back, listen to your work and consider it for the monthly #ygkPlaylist.
