#ygkPlaylist: August 2015

This month’s #ygkPlaylist features a trio of local acts who will be performing at this weekend’s Wolfe Island Music Festival.  The festival officially kicks off this evening on the Main Stage with The Attic Kids performing at 8pm, while they’ll be followed by Daniel Romano and Elliott Brood.  Over at St. Margaret’s Hall you can catch Megan Hamilton taking the stage at 10pm, with Wax Mannequin and Mo Kenney performing there later on in the evening. Finally, tomorrow’s big time festivities on the Main Stage get started at 12:30 with a huge performance by Lost Cousins.  Have a listen to August’s ygkPlaylist below and be sure to check out these and all the other solid acts lined up for WIMF 2015.

The Attic Kids: this four piece indie rock band consists of Nick Castel (vocals), Freddy Kwon (guitar), Adam Noble Marks (bass) and Kyle O’Shaughnessy (drums). Their debut EP titled Where We Belong, was crafted over countless nights of songwriting in an old attic-turned-jamspace over on Alfred Street.  The Attic Kids’s music embodies the carefree, energetic and vibrant music scene that has come to characterize Kingston so well.  Find The Attic Kids on Facebook.

Megan Hamilton: she landed in Kingston 6 years ago, and has since stolen our hearts thanks to her intimate and raw performances on various local stages.  Megan’s appearance at WIMF will feature new songs from her upcoming album, Forty Warm Streams to Lead Your Wings, which will be performed alongside album contributor Danielle Lennon (violin).  Forty Warm Streams to Lead Your Wings demonstrates a step forward in pop sensibilities, a reuniting with dreamy reverb, and a little bit of the unexpected.  Find Megan on Twitter and Facebook.

Lost Cousins: in the midst of a hectic summer schedule that has included shows at prime festival destinations such as Way Home, the meteoric rise of Lost Cousins is hard not to get excited about.  Formed in the basement of a student house in Kingston, Lost Cousins are known for their lush harmonies, soulful lyrics and intricate arrangements. The eclectic sounds produced by band members Cam Duffin, Dylan Cantlon Hay, Thomas Dashney and Lloyd McArton results in a must-see live performance. Find Lost Cousins on Twitter and Facebook.

Every month, we comb Soundcloud looking for sounds that are unique to Kingston. We are constantly seeking out active musicians to show off to the local community and beyond. If you’re a musician who wants to be included in a future #ygkPlaylist, the first step is to get your original music up on Soundcloud and then follow us. We promise to follow you back, listen to your work and consider it for the monthly #ygkPlaylist.
