Friday Foto

Yarn Bomb, Kingston, OntarioHappy Friday everyone. For those of you who are wondering about today’s featured photo, it shows off one of the many colourful yarn bombs that have been dropped in downtown Kingston over the past few months.  The first yarnstorm that caught my attention was at Skeleton Park, where one of the park’s signature canons had been swathed in a beautiful mosaic of knitted threads.  The anonymous sewing circle behind these knitted installations have been silently adding temporary bits of awesome here and there, targeting everything from bike racks to parking meters.  To the crafty folks who are responsible for these gems, thank you, and keep it up.

Aside from all the studying and holiday shopping that’s going on, there are a few things to keep you entertained this weekend.  Tonight there’s a Soul Shakedown happening at the Mansion, although admittedly I’ve always preferred the former, intimate setting at Modern Fuel. I wonder why they made the switch?  Cirque du Soleil’s long-awaited and hyped launch of Quidam happens tomorrow night at the K-Rock Centre.  This show almost coaxed me to open up my wallet, but in the end my curiosity wasn’t enough to justify the expense.  I’ve always been intrigued by Cirque de Soleil, and attending one of their shows seems to be a bucket list item for many people.  If you plan to attend, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the performance.  Did it live up to your expectations?  Last but not least, if you’re looking for some fantastic holiday gift ideas, I highly recommend that you check out the Fat Goose Craft Fair on Sunday.  Remember, there’s only 15 shopping days left until Christmas Day.  Enjoy!
