At the movies in Kingston: May 3 edition

Welcome back to ‘At the movies in Kingston.’ It’s a long shot, but this weekend superheroes will no doubt dominate the box office again.
Here is what’s new at the Kingston theatres for the week starting Friday, May 3, 2019.
Landmark Cinemas:
Long Shot stars Seth Rogen as an unemployed journalist who falls in love with the Secretary of State, Charlize Theron, his childhood crush.
The animated tale UglyDolls sees the popular stuffed animals struggle with their identity as they learn to accept that who they are is what matters most and not what they look like in a mirror.

Cineplex Odeon:
The Saturday morning 10 am Family Favourites is Instant Family. This is story of a couple as they struggle to deal with their new reality as foster parents to three children.
Saturday at 12:55 you can catch Okko’s Inn. The Japanese animated tale is about Okko who moves into her grandmother’s house after her parents die in a car accident. Okko has a unique ability that allows her to see friendly ghosts.
Long Shot and UglyDolls are also playing at Cineplex.

The Screening Room:
Amazing Grace is the behind the scenes documentary of Aretha Franklin and the making of her 1972 album Amazing Grace.
Her Smell stars Elisabeth Moss as an aging punk rocker grappling with exhausted band mates, rising stars looking to eclipse her, and the trials and tribulations of motherhood.
Monday May 6, The Screening Room plays host to the Juvenis Festival. This is a free event that will showcase local youth films.

There are options for your movie experience this weekend. Long Shot looks to fill the void of the date movie, while UglyDolls is trying to find success as the family alternative for weekend viewers.
The Screening Room continues to offer a variety of films throughout the week. The World Before Your Feet and Amazing Grace are great options for the cinephiles looking for something more than superheroes.
You can always catch Avengers: Endgame again. No doubt many in Kingston will be going back for a second showing this weekend.

The fourth cinema is open for weekend business in Kingston. The Kingston Family Fun World Drive-In has opened for weekend business until the summer months arrive. This weekend moviegoers can catch the double Marvel bill of the 8:30 Avengers: Endgame followed by the 11:30 Captain Marvel on screen 1. Screen 3 has Shazam! starting at 8:30 followed by The Curse of Llorona starting at 10:50.
