Here is what’s new at the Kingston theatres for the week starting Friday, Aug. 2, 2019.

Landmark Cinemas:

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw bring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham’s characters together in their own spin off to fight Idris Elba’s bad guy. The plot for this film is not important. If you are looking for an adrenaline boost with high octane action, then this is your movie.

Cineplex Odeon:

Paw Patrol: Ready Race Rescue brings the popular kids show to the screen. If you have small children who closely follow the adventures of the Paw Patrol you will want to check out this film.

Cineplex continues their Studio Ghibli Fest with Sunday’s 12:55 showing of Kiki’s Delivery Service. If you miss Sunday’s showing of the film, it will replay Wednesday August 7 at 7 pm.

Wednesday, Aug. 7 also sees the release of Bring the Soul: The Movie. Fans of the Korean Pop group will be interested in this film.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw also opens this weekend at Cineplex.

The Screening Room:

Yesterday starts its run at The Screening Room this week. A struggling musician named Jack wakes up from an accident in a world where only he remembers the Beatles. Jack uses this secret knowledge to propel himself to stardom but struggles with the demand that superstardom entails and wonders if he has been missing true success all along.

The Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Murdering Mind series continues with this week’s showing of the 1927 Hitchcock film The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog. This third feature from the legendary director is a silent film about a mysterious man who comes to stay at a London boarding house at the same time as a killer named the Avenger preys on blond women in the city. The film will be presented with a live soundtrack by Kingston musician Spencer Evans.

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw will win the box office crown this week. The two-week reign of Simba ends but The Lion King has already earned over a billion dollars at the worldwide box office, so the house of mouse should be very happy with the profit they have made.


The Alfred Hitchcock love continues downtown at The Screening Room. Showcasing one of Hitchcock’s early works The Lodger and brining in musician Spencer Evans to provide a live soundtrack to the silent film is brilliant. Fans of cinema will want to check out this unique experience.

The Beatles inspired Yesterday and the Elton John bio Rocketman are now both at The Screening Room. Music fans will want to check out these films. Have fun at the cinema this weekend. The summer is only half over and there is still lots of time to catch up on the brand new, recently new, or classic films playing at the box office.
