The Skeleton Park Community Songbook with David Francey & Open Voices

There’s a new Skeleton Park Community Songbook video featuring David Francey with Open Voices Choir, Ernestown Secondary School Choir, as well as members of the National Farmers Union and Save Our Prison Farms, who combine to perform Torn Screen Door.  I’m sort of embarrassed to admit that while I’ve heard a lot of great things about David Francy, this is my first exposure to one of his performances.  I can see what all the fuss is about! This is the second Skeleton Park Community Songbook video, while the first episode released last month features P.S. I Love You, and the Sleepless Goat Choir performing Facelove.  So just what is the Skeleton Park Community Songbook you ask?

In collaboration with 12 Kingston community groups and local professional musicians, The Skeleton Park Music Festival plans to create a community songbook & compilation DVD. The songbook & DVD will feature a wide variety of well known folk songs and songs written locally, in an attempt to reflect the rich diversity of the Kingston community. The community songbook will then be distributed throughout the community, as needed. The songbook will help encourage Kingstonians to share music together and learn to sing each other’s songs.
