The Skeleton Park Community Songbook: PS I Love You and The Sleepless Goat Choir
When I first caught wind of the Skeleton Park Community Songbook project, I wanted to spread the good word and share the first video from the series featuring PS I Love You and The Sleepless Goat Choir. There was a slight problem though, as we’d already featured a video by PS I Love You earlier that very same week, and as we all know Kingston has a ton of bands who are worthy of our spotlight. So rather than give the duo too much airplay, we decided to keep the first episode in our back pocket and pull it out somewhere down the road. Just in case you’re still wondering what the songbook project is all about:
In collaboration with 12 Kingston community groups and local professional musicians, The Skeleton Park Music Festival plans to create a community songbook & compilation DVD. The songbook & DVD will feature a wide variety of well known folk songs and songs written locally, in an attempt to reflect the rich diversity of the Kingston community. The community songbook will then be distributed throughout the community, as needed. The songbook will help encourage Kingstonians to share music together and learn to sing each other’s songs.
Fast forward to yesterday where we received conflicting reports that our beloved Sleepless Goat was facing serious financial difficulties, to such a degree that they might be forced to permanently close. From there we caught a bunch of tweets from @sleeplessgoats stating: “we are not necessarily closing immediately, its just a serious concern we have, based on both economics and staffing”, and “we obviously want to stay in business and have a good chance at it, but we’ll need extra support from the community to make it happen especially so we can afford exciting, and much needed improvements!” What better time than now to show the Goat, and PS I Love You, some much deserved love. Hit play below, and if you’re so inclined, be sure to check out the Goat’s benefit concert at The Artel on November 30th.
