For the first time in 49 years, The Lakeshore Swimming Pool Association (LSPA) will not be opening for the 2020 summer season, announced the Board of Directors of the association on June 22.

According to a press release, this decision was made due to three main reasons: Ensuring the health and safety of members and staff, the financial risk of opening during a pandemic were too high and the logistics of opening while maintaining health and safety protocols were quite complex.

President of LSPA, Andrew Cotton says that although this is a “no-win” situation, he is excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the pool in 2021.

“Like so many other organizations COVID-19 has placed LSPA in a no-win situation,” said Cotton in a press release. “If there is a silver lining in this time of upheaval and uncertainty, it is the steadfast affection that so many feel for Lakeshore.”

“2021 will be the 50th anniversary of Lakeshore Swimming Pool Association and the tough choices that we have had to make this summer will ensure that we can celebrate this important milestone together next year.”
